Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has rubbished reports that he would have moved to Paris St Germain had the Neymar deal happened. There were lots of rumours that the Frenchman would exit the Spanish side as part of a swap deal for Neymar.
While the Brazilian’s future still remains uncertain at PSG, he seems resolved to stay at the club at least for the first half of the season. Umtiti said there was never any deal which involved him being a makeweight so Neymar could return to the Nou Camp despite his recent struggled.
The player was sidelined for most of last season due to knee injury and recently foot injury. His starting role has been filled by compatriot Clement Lenglet, and he missed the international break games with France.
He admitted to being frustrated with the injuries but mentioned he was never in on the deal to PSG or that of the summer rumours to Arsenal. He insisted they were all rumours as he was clear with his agent that he was remaining at Barcelona, his childhood dream club.
The team seems to have moved on with Lenglet doing fine in the role, and him yet to gain full fitness. Umtiti is yet expected to return and support the squad in a very competitive season.
The Neymar deal to Barcelona, while it would come at huge costs, is still a possibility. They seem to be the only side the Brazilian is keen on even though options like Real Madrid and Juventus exist. However, with the star of the PSG side KylianMbappe not renewing his deal at PSG, Madrid, Juventus and a host of other top sides are already preparing for a mega deal for the pacy forward.
